Spare the Air/Yolobus Fares 05.26.17 12:52 pm

Riding the bus is a great way to improve air quality, especially during the summer when air quality can be poor.  Basic bus fare is a modest $2.25 and only $1.10 for seniors, disabled persons and riders between the ages of 5-18 years.  Riding the bus just one day per week can remove a signficant pollutants from our air and help improve traffic congestion and delay.

Yolo/Solano Air Quality Management District and the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District designate certain dates as as “Spare the Air” days when the Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to exceed “126” for ozone levels.  The air districts send out announcements at least the day before when ozone levels are expected to exceed that threshold.

In the past, YOLOBUS fixed and paratransit service would be be provided at no charge to riders because of this “Spare the Air Day” designation.  This free-ride incentive program on YOLOBUS was funded by the Federal Transit Administration.  That funding is no longer available to the Districte and unfortunately the District will not offer free rides on those days in 2017.

When temperatures are forecast to be significant YOLOBUS advises passengers to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and staying indoors as long as possible (until their buses arrive), particularly in the afternoon.
